World Soil Day was organized at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Khawzawl Champhai District under the chairmanship of Dr. Malsawmkimi, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Khawzawl. Around 180 students from LR School and 21 farmers from Khawzawl and other neighbouring villages participated in the Programme. Dr Malsawmkimi delivered a welcome speech for the participants and she had given a brief report of the activities undertaken by the Institution in this regard.
Mr. Prakash Thapa, Farm Manager elaborated on the theme of World Soil Day 2022 ‘Soil: Where food begins’ to the audience and he also emphasized the importance of soil and stressed the need to increase awareness of soil management among the children and farmers. He also highlighted the history, significance and why we celebrate WORLD Soil Day to the participants.
Ms. R.Vanlalduati, Subject Matter Specialist (Soil Science) stressed the important issues such as the importance of soil analysis and recommended dose of fertilizer application. She also highlighted about the importance of Soil Health Cards for monitoring the status of soil and actions to improve them.
The programme was followed by an interaction and discussion programme among the rural youth members and trainer, the mutual interactions between the participants and the facilitator facilitated bringing forward the problems being faced by the participants, the causes and the knowledge gaps.
On this occasion, Soil Health Cards were also distributed to the farmers and the programme was concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Om Prakash, SMS (Agronomy).
